OUR STRATEGY

Diversity Equity and Inclusion

  • Including diverse suppliers in the supply chain is sourcing’s contribution to the corporate DE&I objective

  • The importance of sourcing inclusion cannot be overestimated.

  • The impact of successfully delivering on the objective of sourcing inclusion is crucial to the achievement of DE&I

  • Supplier Diversity must be communicated throughout the sourcing organization using the same language as all other sourcing objectives.

Conversation Between Colleagues

Supplier Diversity Impact

  • For every dollar spent by corporations in the diverse community, 3 dollars of value is realized, making Supplier Diversity the most impactful action taken in the DE&I ecosystem

  • Employees of diverse businesses utilized by corporations are 10x more likely to purchase or utilize that corporation’s product or service.

  • At its core, Supplier Diversity activities are grass roots marketing, creating positive branding and increasing market share.

  • While difficult to measure, we know that including diverse businesses in our supply chain adds market value to the organization

Supplier Diversity Execution

  • DE&I will never be integrated into business culture if we continue to consider the effort a program in our sourcing discipline

  • The consideration of new material and service providers must be data driven, evaluated and validated the same way as other sourcing activities.

  • Generic MWBE sourcing goals demotivate sourcing professionals, because every category has unique inclusion opportunities.

  • Identifying the appropriate and applicable numeric goal provides sourcing professionals the data needed to actively consider new providers.

Supplier Diversity Integration Plan

  • Often, in the design and development phase of a Supplier Diversity effort, a current sourcing professional is tapped for this role.

  • The addition of Supplier Diversity to an experienced sourcing professional will provide a new perspective for the employee.

  • However, adding this responsibility to an already heaping plate will only result in poor results and frustration.

  • The best way to ensure both employee and organizational success is to utilize an experienced Supplier Diversity Initiative development consultant to create a Supplier Diversity Integration Plan

  • Once developed, the consultant will work with the identified integration manager to hand off the plan and consult when necessary.

  • This provides the best opportunity for success – internal execution combined with external development expertise.

Supplier Diversity Integration Goals

  • Identification of current diverse spend

  • Aggregation of spend categories

  • Data driven spend objectives by category

  • Overall diverse spend goals

  • Prioritization of diverse spend opportunities

  • Year 1 execution plan

  • Quarterly check-ins to course correct or adjust as needed
